Learn About PPD and TTD From a Florence Workers' Comp Lawyer

Helping Injured Workers Get Compensation

Like many areas of law, workers' compensation can be difficult to understand. You may feel or know that you are entitled to benefits, but you probably do not know how much or how to make sure you receive them. Fortunately, an experienced lawyer can handle these issues so you can focus on your health.

At Zingarelli & Lawrence, our attorneys have extensive experience helping people recover much-needed workers compensation benefits in Kentucky. We understand the complex system, including the rules for Temporary Total Disability (TTD) and Permanent Partial Disability (PPD). We can demystify the process for you and work to recover the maximum compensation to which you are entitled.

Understanding TTD and PPD

Temporary Total Disability: Simply stated, an injured worker receives TTD benefits in cases where he or she expects to go back to work. TTD payments are intended to replace part of your lost wages. TTD is paid while you are still getting treatment from your doctor or until you reach "maximum medical improvement." The amount you receive is typically two-thirds of your average weekly wage.

Permanent Partial Disability: PPD is paid at the end of your workers' comp case if you have a permanent disability that prevents you from going back to work at full capacity. Your doctor will assign you a number, known as the "impairment rating," that describes how much function you have lost. For example, if you suffered a severely broken ankle, you might lose 10 percent of the function in that ankle.

The impairment rating is critical because other than TTD, the amount you receive for PPD (which is based on the impairment rating) is the only payment you will receive. You and your family will need to rely on the PPD payout until you can find a job that you are able to perform given your disability.

A Lawyer's Role in TTD and PPD Cases

As experienced attorneys, our goal is to help you get the benefits you deserve. In TTD cases, we help people who have had their benefits cut off prematurely. We can communicate with your doctor and the insurance carrier to fix this issue. If it cannot be resolved amicably, we can fight the insurer in court.

In PPD cases, medical records analysis and communication with your doctor are vital. We are deeply familiar with medical impairment ratings and the way they are calculated. We can review your rating and determine if you are being treated fairly.
