TRANSCRIPT:
Your insurance policy has something called underinsured motorist coverage, which is different than uninsured motorist coverage. For both of them, you pay your insurance company a premium to cover you if someone hurts you in a car accident, but they are not insured or they don’t have enough insurance. An uninsured person will have your uninsured motorist coverage come in and cover whatever damages that person caused and they’ll sue that person to recover their money. An underinsured person will have your underinsured motorist coverage come in and cover in excess whatever the other driver wasn’t able to cover with his or her insurance policy.
