So, because most of our practice areas are contingency fee and because we front the case expenses, it’s not common that we have to do anything in the way of sending people toward financial aid. In fact, it’s not ethical under our rules for us to advance case settlement to somebody as an expense against the case. Some states will let you do that, but ours won’t.
When it comes to other types of resources that aren’t financial—Michael, I’m thinking about your workers’ compensation cases. What do people need to do if their medical treatment gets denied? What’s the best resource for them there?
Seeking other insurance. I work with clients all the time to apply and get approved for state health insurance if they meet the requirements, which can really help to get that medical treatment while the case is in litigation. Other than that, it’s very important to have simple things like transportation to medical appointments and the time to do it. Many of my clients are still working, but they make the time to get to physical therapy because they know that it’s going to help improve their condition.
