Kentucky Roofing Claims May Become Larger

They Kentucky Department of Insurance has issued new regulations that require insurers to ensure that replacement parts used in claims must reasonably match in quality, color, and size. If they do not, the entire entity must be completely replaced. This means that, for example, if your roof sustains covered damage on only one side, the insurer must find shingles that match the undamaged side to replace it. If they can’t, or the shingles are out of stock, the insurer must replace your entire roof at no additional cost to you.
This regulation was put into place to protect homeowners’ property values, as having mismatched roofing or carpet could reduce a home’s value. Kentucky is one of a few states with such a regulation. In contrast, in Ohio, only the visibly damaged sections need to be replaced. This new regulation could have a significant impact on Kentucky roofing damage claims.
